Description Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) is an important signaling protein involved in angiogenesis and vasculogenesis. As the name implies, VEGF activity has been studied primarily in vascular endothelial cells, but it also affects other cell types (e.g., stimulating monocyte/macrophage migration, neurons, cancer cells, and renal epithelial cells). VEGF mediates increased vascular permeability, induces angiogenesis, vasculogenesis, and endothelial cell growth, promotes cell migration, and inhibits apoptosis. In vitro experiments have shown that VEGF stimulates endothelial cell mitosis and cell migration. VEGF is also a vasodilator that increases microvascular permeability; it was originally termed the vascular permeability factor.
Application This product can be used for research on inducing angiogenesis with a short isoform (121 a.a.) for controlled vascularization in tissue engineering with human VEGF.

Activity Compared to the standard, VEGF-121 possesses full biological activity. Its activity is determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of HUVECs, typically ranging from 1-6 ng/mL, corresponding to a specific activity of 166,667-1,000,000 U/mg.
Redissolution It is recommended to reconstitute lyophilized vascular endothelial growth factor-121 with sterile 18 MΩ-cm H₂O to a concentration of at least 100 µg/mL, after which it may be further diluted into other aqueous solutions.
Formulation This protein was lyophilized from a 1 mg/mL solution and contains no additives.
