What are Basic Magnetic Beads?

Basic magnetic beads are magnetic microspheres without complex surface functionalization; they exhibit fundamental magnetic response and a stable skeletal structure, making them the most basic and widely used core raw material in magnetic bead technology. Basic magnetic beads are typically composed of magnetic materials such as Fe3O4 or γ-Fe2O3 encapsulated or composite-bound within matrices such as silica, polymers, or agarose. They can serve as precursors for binding antibodies, nucleic acid probes, or affinity ligands, and are directly used in non-specific recognition applications, such as cell labeling, magnetic therapy, and magnetic separation.

Applications of Basic Magnetic Beads

  • Nucleic Acid Extraction and Purification: Utilizing non-specific adsorption or silanol-modified surfaces, magnetic beads bind to DNA/RNA under high-salt conditions and enable rapid separation via an external magnetic field.
