The enhanced oil recovery (EOR) chips are research platform products based on microfluidic technology designed to enhance oil recovery. By precisely simulating rock pore structures and porous media, these chips provide a visual experimental environment for scientific research and development in the field of oil extraction.

Features of EOR Technology

EOR Chips are made of transparent materials, enabling direct observation and real-time analysis of physical processes within rock formations. This makes previously hidden underground processes—such as fluid migration, seepage, and displacement—clearly visible. Microfluidic technology accurately replicates the underground reservoir environment, making it suitable for evaluating the effectiveness and potential impacts of various EOR methods, including chemical flooding, thermal recovery, and microbial enhanced oil recovery.

Key Applications

  • Visualization of Displacement Mechanisms: Simulate processes such as waterflooding, gasflooding, and chemical flooding to directly observe residual oil distribution and initiation mechanisms at the pore scale.
  • Polymer/Surfactant Screening: Rapidly evaluate the effects of different chemical agents on reducing interfacial tension, altering wettability, and increasing viscosity.
  • Foam/Microbubble Stability Evaluation: Study the generation, migration, and blocking capabilities of foam in porous media to optimize flooding schemes.
  • Droplet Deformation and Transport at Throat Scale: Analyze the stalling, coalescence, and restart behavior of oil droplets passing through narrow throats to guide injection parameters.
  • In-Situ Reaction and Microbial Flooding Simulation: Simulate gel cross-linking, nanomaterial adsorption, or microbial gas production processes on a chip to validate new methods for enhancing oil recovery.

Our products offer a variety of pore structure designs (regular, random, and rock-mimicking), which can be selected and configured based on the geological characteristics of different reservoirs. The accompanying chip fixtures support research under diverse operating conditions and accommodate multi-inlet/outlet connection requirements. Please feel free to contact us for more information!
