It plays a crucial role in embryogenesis, tissue regeneration, wound healing, central nervous system development, angiogenesis, and tumor progression. bFGF is a potent mitogen that exhibits strong mitogenic activity in mesoderm-derived cells, including BALB/c 3T3 fibroblasts, capillary and endothelial cells, myoblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, glial and astrocytes, and adrenal cortical cells.
