| Description | Microfluidic chip technology for droplet generation can produce not only simple, uniform droplets but also complex droplets for various applications through fluid path design. One prominent application is the Janus droplet. Janus droplets refer to droplets that encapsulate multi-component liquids or two liquids with different surface properties, including differing charges and wettability. Janus droplets can be used in micro-rheology and as microprobes for bioimaging, and they hold immense potential for applications in physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science. Janus microdroplets can be generated using microfluidic chips that combine laminar flow with flow focusing. Janus droplet generation chips primarily consist of Y-shaped laminar flow structures and cross-shaped focusing structures. The chip can accommodate two dispersed phases (typically aqueous solutions) and one continuous phase; after the two dispersed phases form a laminar flow or mix, they are sheared into microdroplets by the continuous phase. |
