Description Gene transfection liposomes, also known as cationic liposomes, contain positively charged lipids that can form complexes with treatment nucleic acids through ionic interactions. Cationic liposomes are considered potential carriers for gene delivery due to their ability to transfect cells with high efficiency. Cationic liposome-mediated transfection is currently one of the most commonly used transfection methods. The principle is that the basic structure of cationic liposomes consists of a positively charged head group and one or two hydrocarbon chains. The positively charged head group and negatively charged nucleic acid form a complex through electrostatic interaction, and enter the cell through endocytosis. In the process of lipoplex formation between DNA and cationic liposomes, cationic liposomes play a role in complexing and agglutinating DNA, and also help the complex bind to the cell membrane.
