| Size | 20 mL |
| Physical Specs | 50-500 nm, 1-3 μm |
| Description | Carboxylated mesoporous silica microspheres are the preferred delivery vehicle for various active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Solid silica particles possess nanopores, and mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) can be used to deliver larger drug molecules or higher payloads. They can be incorporated with low-molecular-weight substances, or their surfaces can be functionalized to carry a high positive charge for the electrostatic adsorption of genetic material, such as delivering siRNA to specific cells. From small hydrophobic drugs to large biomolecules, simply by altering pore size and selective surface modification—which can typically be customized independently—different functions can be introduced inside or outside the porous matrix. Applications span biomedical fields such as biocatalysis, bioimaging and sensors, disease diagnosis, and drug delivery. |
| Applications | Applications in nanomedicine, targeted drug delivery, sustained-release and controlled-release drug delivery, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, and biodistribution studies; enzyme encapsulation for biocatalysis; sample preparation for bioanalysis; research on functionalized composite nanoparticles; physical adsorbent materials (for capturing CO₂, H₂S, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, heavy metal ions, etc.); separation: such as oil-water separation, and removal of phosphates and algal toxins from wastewater. |
