| Description | Blank liposomes are a type of spherical closed vesicles formed by self-assembly of phospholipid molecules in an aqueous environment. The core is a cavity and is not preloaded with drugs or active molecules. It is a basic model of liposome systems for research. Phospholipid molecules are amphiphilic—the hydrophilic head faces toward the water phase, and the hydrophobic tails gather inward to form a lipid bilayer membrane with a thickness of about 4-5 nm. Common membrane materials include egg yolk lecithin, soy lecithin, hydrogenated phospholipids and cholesterol. The particle size of blank liposomes can range from tens of nanometers to several microns - the nanometer level (about 100-160 nm) is suitable for cellular uptake and in vivo distribution studies, and the micron level (such as 5 μm) is suitable for membrane physical properties and optical microscopy observation. Its appearance is usually light yellow gel-like or turbid dispersion. It needs to be stored at 2-8℃ in the dark and cannot be frozen. As an "empty carrier", blank liposomes can accurately control membrane material composition, surface charge and particle size distribution, and are a universal tool for drug delivery model system construction, membrane chemistry research and control experiments. |
