Description Silk Fibroin (SF), derived from the degumming of silk, is a high-molecular polypeptide composed of various amino acids. The SF molecule includes a hydrophobic peptide chain (H chain) and a hydrophilic peptide chain (L chain). The special amino acid sequences of H chain and L chain make it possible to form a variety of protein secondary conformations. Various properties of silk fibroin materials can be effectively controlled by regulating the secondary structure of silk fibroin, including the preparation of high-strength, high-orientation materials, etc. With good biocompatibility, biodegradability, and high tensile strength, SF has been used in various biomedical fields, including wound dressings, artificial blood vessels, and cell culture.
Methacrylated silk fibroin (Silk Fibroin Methacryloyl, SFMA) is modified by methacrylating SF through glycidyl methacrylate, and a double bond is introduced into the SF molecule. Due to the special spatial structure of SF molecules, it is very easy to form crystals before modification and is difficult to dissolve in water. After the introduction of additional chemical groups, it can be quickly dissolved in water, which allows SilMA to be photocured into a hydrogel

Usage Silk fibroin solution is a semi-stable sol, which is easily induced by external stimuli such as strong shear, ultrasound, high temperature, organic solvents, etc., to undergo molecular self-assembly, precipitation or gelation behavior. It is normal that there is a little insoluble matter in the silk fibroin solution. It is recommended to remove the insoluble matter by centrifugation or filtration to avoid inducing more silk fibroin to precipitate.
